iPhone prices in the US

As Apple's home market, the US usually has the lowest sticker prices: the iPhone 17 costs $929, the iPhone 18 Pro $1,199 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max $1,299.

  • No VAT: Apple shows US prices before sales tax, which varies by state (from 0% in states like Oregon or Delaware to around 10% with local taxes).
  • Pricing power: Apple sets prices in dollars first; other countries absorb currency swings.

Prices for United States come from Apple Store (official) and were last checked on October 1, 2026. Apple lists them before sales tax. Dollar figures are approximate conversions.

iPhone prices in France

In France the iPhone 17 costs €1,119 (about $1,269) and the iPhone 18 Pro €1,479 (about $1,677), so 40% more than the US price for the Pro.

  • 20% VAT is always included in French retail prices.
  • Private copying levy (“rémunération pour copie privée”): France adds a fee on devices with storage, which grows with capacity.

iPhone prices in Germany

Germany is slightly cheaper than France thanks to its lower 19% VAT: the iPhone 17 costs €1,099 (about $1,246) and the iPhone 18 Pro €1,449 (about $1,643). Germany also applies a private copying levy on smartphones, though it is smaller than France's.

  • Import duties and PTA tax: every imported phone must be registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, and duties on premium phones are high.
  • No Apple Store: iPhones are sold through resellers, so prices vary between shops.
  • Exchange rate: a weaker rupee pushes prices up even when Apple's dollar price is unchanged.

Why do iPhone prices vary so much?

  1. Taxes: European prices include VAT of 19–25%; US prices don't include sales tax.
  2. Import duties: countries such as Pakistan, Brazil and Turkey add heavy duties on imported electronics.
  3. Exchange rates: Apple reprices yearly, so a currency that weakens during the year makes the iPhone more expensive in dollar terms.
  4. Local manufacturing: assembly in India and China reduces import costs for some models.
